You Are Who You Hang Out With

Let’s talk about something that most people feel but don’t always want to admit: you are who you hang out with. Yep, even if you think you’re just “around” certain people and their habits don’t affect you, think again.

Energy is real. And it’s contagious.

If your circle is filled with people who complain, procrastinate, party every weekend, or make excuses instead of progress, don’t be surprised when you start doing the same. Not because you’re weak, but because that’s how energy works. We absorb what we’re exposed to. Even the most self-aware person can get swept up in someone else’s storm if they’re standing too close.

I’ve seen it in my own life. When I’ve surrounded myself with high-energy, motivated, growth-focused people, I rise. I’m inspired, more productive, and more aligned with who I’m becoming. But when I’ve spent too much time with negativity, gossip, or chaos, I feel it. My mindset slips, my boundaries weaken, and I start second-guessing my path.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Hang out with 8 millionaires and you’ll become the 9th.” That’s not just about money. It’s about vibration. Goals. Lifestyle. When you’re around people who think bigger, who operate with purpose, who stretch your vision, your own standards shift. You naturally rise to the level of your environment.

And yes, this includes family. I know that can be a tough pill to swallow. We love them. But sometimes the people closest to us carry patterns and energy that pull us backward. That doesn’t mean you have to cut people off completely. But it does mean you get to choose how much access they have to your energy.

Here’s what I’ve learned: where I spend my time is where I’m headed. So if I want peace, I need to be around peaceful people. If I want growth, I need to be around people who challenge themselves. If I want to succeed, I can’t be afraid to outgrow circles that no longer reflect my path.

This isn’t about judgment, it’s about alignment. We’re not meant to stay the same. And it’s okay to evolve beyond what once felt familiar. It’s okay to create distance when needed. You’re allowed to protect your peace, your growth, your dreams.

You have a choice. Always.

Take a look at your circle. Does it reflect the future you want to create? Or the past you’re trying to leave behind?

Be bold enough to choose what serves your highest self. Be intentional with your energy. Because who you hang out with isn’t just company—it’s direction.
